GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist
Silvana has skills in interpretation, processing, and classification of aerial and satellite imagery (both active and passive sensors) and deep knowledge in the production and elaboration of thematic maps using GIS technologies (Geographic Information System).
Currently, she is involved in the technical coordination of ITHACA production site for the Copernicus Emergency Management Service – Rapid Mapping module and Risk and Recovery module, coordinates the ITHACA team responsible for developing workflows and procedures in the same service modules, and acts as a technical officer in the Internal Quality Management of the Rapid Mapping service.
She also works on: i) the assessment of reference spatial data in terms of availability, quality, and consistency for the Copernicus In-Situ component of the EEA Spatial Data Themes Service ii) the land cover validation for the Global Land High Resolution Hot Spot Monitoring Service.
Silvana holds a Master' Degree in Environmental Engineering (Politecnico di Torino, Italy, 2017) with a thesis on the development and implementation of a new building damage scale for post-disaster maps production in the framework of the International Working Group on Satellite-based Emergency Mapping (IWG-SEM).
