Chiara Di Ciollo

GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist

Chiara is collaborating with ITHACA since February 2018 and has worked on automatic surface water extraction from optical data (optimization of indexes and development of an extraction algorithm on a cloud-based geospatial processing platform), satellite image processing and classification for thematic information extraction and tools testing.

Currently, she supports ITHACA’s operational activities (early impact analyses and production of thematic maps using GIS technologies in support of disaster management) and internal tools development for both the Copernicus Emergency Management Service – Rapid Mapping module and Risk and Recovery module.

Chiara holds a Master’s degree in Territorial and Environmental Engineering with particular focus to soil and land monitoring and protection against hydrogeological risk (Politecnico di Torino, 2018). She spent a period at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, working on snow deposition phenomena which lead to spatial snow-pack variability on Alpine terrain. Previously she gained a Bachelor degree in Territorial and Environmental Engineering (University of Bologna, 2015) with a thesis on landslide risk for a site of cultural interest.
