UNGIWG Meeting, Geneva, 14-16 March 2011
The United Nations Geographical Information Working Group (UNGIWG) is a network of professionals working in the fields of cartography and geographic information science to building the UN Spatial Data Infrastructure.
During its 11th meeting in Geneva, different UN agencies, NGOs and commercial partners presented activities and solutions adopted for managing geographic data. Specifically for UN Spatial Data Infrastructure, Terms of Reference for a Steering Committee and for a Technical Advisory Group were presented, together with the project for a Center for Excellence for UNSDI, with the aim to define standards and best-practices for core datasets, to design the UNSDI spatial warehouse and to develop visualization facilities.
Finally, UNGIWG co-chairs for the period 2011-2013 were elected and are Matjaz Prah (CTBTO) and Suha Ulgen (OICT UN Secretariat).
