ITHACA @ the 3rd International Workshop on Global Flood Monitoring and Modelling
From 4 to 6 March 2013, the Third International Workshop on Global Flood Monitoring and Modelling will take place in Washington, USA, hosted by the University of Maryland to discuss the state of the art in this new and multi-disciplinary field.
ITHACA will be presenting Version 2 of the Extreme Raindfall Detection System (ERDS), an application developed with the aim to provide timely and meaningful alerts related to exceptional rainfalls and potential flood events through the elaboration of monitoring and forecasting open-source products at global scale.
ITHACA contribution focuses on the analysis of the recent Mozambique flood event (January 2013). In particular, the results obtained from the integration of monitoring and forecasting heavy rain computational tools together with large in-house data-sets and higher value products (e.g. reference data, global data-sets of past flood events, emergency mapping etc.) will be shown.
