Rapid Mapping

ITHACA participated to the IWG-SEM meeting hosted by DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen (Munich)

ITHACA, together with representatives from DLR, EC, SERTIT, UN-SPIDER and USGS, participated to the IWG-SEM meeting in Oberpfaffenhofen on 20-21 May 2014 and handed over the chairmanship role, which rotates nominally on a yearly basis, to DLR.

The working group is dealing with international harmonization and improvement of cooperation efforts in the domain of Emergency mapping, mainly during major, wide area disaster events of global concern. The IWG-SEM gathers twice a year in working meetings. Furthermore, it coordinates its activities in monthly telephone conferences. Currently, the group is occupied with the formulation and establishing of basic Emergency Mapping guidelines (The current version of the document can be downloaded here) and is drafting basic principles for better harmonisation of mapping activities in case of major disaster situations.
