As Chair of the ISPRS WGVIII/1, Prof. Piero Boccardo joins the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) Study Group "International Aerospace System for Monitoring of Global Geophysical Phenomena and Forecasting of Natural and Man-Caused Disasters". Boccardo along with Sisi Zlatanova, Chair of the ISPRS WGIV/8, increase the ISPRS Representation in the Study Group in the hope, according to ISPRS President Orhan Altan, these actions will help to coordinate ISPRS activities in very important areas and achieve better results for the Mankind.
Today a formal collaboration agreement will be signed between Ithaca and Vodafone. Vodafone, one of the leading worldwide company in the field of mobile communication will sign a contract with Ithaca for the testing of a map database devoted to telecomm planning.

From the 10th to the 12th of November, ITHACA will take part in the mission to Washington DC - organized in the frame of the Project Tender of Torino Chamber of Commerce - to meet with the World Bank Group (WB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to investigate possible opportunities in the field of disaster and risk management.
Prof. Boccardo, Director of ITHACA, was appointed as Chairman of Working Group I, which covers disaster and health, by the President of ISPRS Commission VIII, Haruhisa Shimoda of the Tokai University Research and Information Center.
ISPRS Commission VIII is composed of 8 Working Groups, and each WG has a Working Group Chairman, Woking Group Co-Chairmen, and a Secretary if necessary.
As a chairman, Boccardo will attend both the Kyoto meeting and Melbourne meeting. Also he is expected to organize his working group, and also to organize around 3 oral sessions in Kyoto. Each session is composed of 5 papers.
The final decision of the working group chairmen will be made at the coming ISPRS Council meeting, which will held from 12 October 2008.
The ISPRS Council has appointed the ITHACA Director, Prof. Piero Boccardo, as ISPRS representative to the main UN Agencies (WFP, UNOOSA, OCHA, FAO and UNHCR) especially in disaster and remote sensing applications.
