Accuracy evaluation of building damage assessment based on remote sensing imagery

ITHACA is engaged in carrying out scientific applied research in the field of damage assessment after an earthquake, in strict collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino. A master degree thesis, currently in the finalizing stage, is focused on the evaluation of the semantic accuracy of earthquake building damage assessment based on aerial/satellite data. The research aims to assess the achievable accuracy in function of the spatial resolution of the considered remotely sensed data. The experimental tests are based on the 2010 Haiti earthquake case study. Data acquired in Port-au-Prince by the Ithaca team using a Low Cost Mobile Mapping System (LCMMS) are used as ground truth.
